Individual Child, Adolescent and Family Counseling
Joanna Flora provides home-based and office-based counseling services for children and adolescents ranging in age from 3-21, as well as family counseling.
Consultation services are available for parents who need guidance or advice on how to handle various behavioral issues with their children. Some parents seek consultations regarding their child’s oppositional or defiant behavior; for support in addressing issues such as potty training, bereavement, and other life situations; guidance in talking to children about divorce, past traumas, sexualized behaviors; as well as various issues impacting a child’s schooling. Sessions generally last 45 minutes to one hour and can be provided weekly or on an as needs basis.
Potty Training Program
Potty training often presents significant challenges for many children and their families. Joanna employs a highly effective strategy by working with the family in home to assess current bathroom routines. She offers specific techniques that use creative play to assist young ones, and couples these with educational real time strategies for parents. Most youths are fully trained in less than 10 sessions.
Sex Education for Developmental Disabilities
Providing clear, simple, and satisfying sexual education and answers is difficult for almost all parents. The situation can be even more challenging when your child has a developmental disability and cannot understand what is happening to his or her body. Joanna provides education to youth as well as support for families to manage the new behaviors that develop with puberty.
